Serpa
Serpa is located in the Lower Alentejo, on an elevation in the left bank of the river Guadiana and is home to one of the largest municipalities in the country. Narrow streets and the typical white houses are one of the most appealing characteristics of Serpa City inhabited since ancient times, Serpa had a great Roman and Arab influence. It was conquered to the Moors by D. Afonso Henriques in 1166 and was lost several times during the struggles of the Reconquest. It was definitively constituted like county in 1295 by D. Dinis that had surrounded Serpa by a waist of walls.
